Book Now

You will have the brewery all to yourself on this private, small group experience at the Angry Hen Brewery in Kaslo, BC. Have a tour of the brewery “back room” with a brewery owner before sitting down to taste the wares yourself—trust me, you will not be disappointed. Then, you will be treated to an appetizer tasting and presentation by a gourmet specialist who has created unique offerings using hops, beer, and spent grain from the Angry Hen Brewery itself.

But hold the beer……what is “spent grain” and what’s the big deal about it? In the beer-making process, spent grain (generally barley or wheat or both) valiantly sacrifices its sugars. This is what nourishes the yeast and allows beer to become what we love. World-wide, approximately 30 million tonnes of spent grain is created yearly, and often is salvaged from the beer making process and used as cattle or chicken feed. However, it still has plenty of nutritious value as well as a distinct nuttiness that works quite well in a variety of dishes. It suddenly has been the focus of attention to fortify food products, particularly in view of its low cost and availability in large amounts. And, wait for it…… published research has shown that the health benefits are immense! Could you live on beer alone???

Find out for yourself….at Angry Hen Brewing in Kaslo, BC!

About the Angry Hen Brewery, Experience Collaborator

The "Hen" opened in December 2017 under the tutelage of Head Brewer Shirley Warne (aka the Angry Hen). Shirley's craft brewing experience stretches over 30 years and all across Canada. Her uncompromising approach to beer making has earned her respect from the craft beer world. Most important though, is the quality and flavour of the beer that you'll drink. Tours of the brewery are personalized to each group. Co-owner and fellow beer lover, Andy LeCouffe, will guide you through a behind the scenes look at the design and crafting of really great beer, and how ingredients and by-products are managed in a small brewery.

About Cassie Gerretsen, Experience Collaborator

Cassie has always loved cooking. Originally learning from her mother, and, since moving to the Kootenays, she is taking it beyond the family. Working at two different breweries in the area, she has developed a passion for creating new and interesting dishes with beer as an ingredient. When she isn’t cooking, she is out in the woods foraging for wild foods or on the river fly fishing. Cassie lives in Kaslo after recently moving from Vancouver.
